Ricky Martin Writes Open Letter To Bad Bunny

Über proud of Bad Bunny taking home three Grammy awards – including album of the year for Debí Tirar Más Fotos – on Tuesday (2.03,) Ricky Martin published a heartfelt open letter titled ‘When One of Ours Succeeds, We All Succeed,’ in the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día.

Taking to his Instagram Stories account with a screenshot of the pair, the 54-year old Latin music legend wrote in Spanish:

“Benito, brother, seeing you win three Grammy Awards, one of them for album of the year with a production entirely in Spanish, touched me deeply. Not only as an artist, but as a Puerto Rican who has walked stages around the world carrying his language, his accent, and his story,” “I know what it means to succeed without letting go of where you come from. I know how heavy it is, what it costs, and what is sacrificed when you decide not to change because others ask you to. That’s why what you have achieved is not just a historic musical accomplishment, it’s a cultural and human victory,” he added. “You won without changing the colour of your voice. You won without erasing your roots. You won by staying true to Puerto Rico.”

On Sunday night (2.01,) Bad Bunny made history when he became the first artist to win the Grammy for album of the year with a set entirely in Spanish.

Having spent four weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 and 50 weeks at the top of the Top Latin Albums chart, Debí Tirar Más Fotos also won Best Música Urbana Album and superstar singer/songwriter also won best global music performance for the song ‘EoO.’
