Rock Hall Of Fame Nominees Announced

Melissa Etheridge, INXS, New Edition, Wu-Tang Clan and late singers Jeff Buckley and Luther Vandross, Shakira, Pink and Lauryn Hill are among the first timer nominees list for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2026.

This year marks Phil Collins’ first time on the ballot as a solo act, after being inducted into the famed music institution as a member of Genesis in 2010.

For the third time running Mariah Carey is up for consideration, alongside other three-time nominees Oasis, Iron Maiden and Joy Division/New Order. And rounding out the class of 2026 contenders are The Black Crowes, Billy Idol and Sade, who are all on their second nomination.

In a statement about this years list, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chairman, John Sykes said: “This diverse list of talented nominees recognizes the ever-evolving faces and sounds of Rock & Roll and its continued impact on youth culture.” “Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is music’s highest honor and we look forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 this Fall.”

Addressing the nomination, Andrew Farriss from the Australian band INXS told Billboard that their late frontman Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997 at the age of 37, would be “honoured” by the recognition, adding “One thing he said very early on in our career is, ‘One day I’d like to think whatever we did mattered.’ That’s something he said. I think this shows that it did. That’s pretty cool’

Once an artist’s debut recording celebrates its 25-year anniversary, they become eligible for induction into the Rock Hall.

Followed by a star-studded induction ceremony in the autumn, this year’s inductees will be officially announced in April.

Last year’s class included Cyndi Lauper, Bad Company, OutKast, The White Stripes and Soundgarden.
