Following the “tragic” passing of a crew member beneath their tour bus, Squeeze cancelled their Thursday (9.03,) U.S. show.
Scheduled to perform in Vienna, Virginia as part of their ongoing series of gigs with Adam Ant and Haircut 100, the iconic British band, fronted by Glenn Tilbrook, confirmed the cancellation of the date just hours before they were due to take the stage at the Wolf Trap National Park For The Performing Arts, writing:
“Squeeze are deeply saddened and shocked by an incident that occurred at the venue earlier today, which resulted in the loss of a life.” ” their statement read. “After discussions with the venue and the relevant authorities, the decision was made to cancel this evening’s performance.”
According Fox 5 News, a member of the road crew was crushed after the vehicle he was working on collapsed on top of him. Pronounced dead at the scene, they blamed the incident, which occurred in the venue car park, on a failure of “supporting apparatus”.
A statement from the venue spokesperson read “There was an accident involving a member of the community at Wolf Trap National Park today, tragically resulting in a loss of life. Out of respect, tonight’s show has been cancelled.”
About plans to reschedule, Squeeze added “We will work with the promoter and venue regarding the possibility of rescheduling the show and will communicate further information to ticket holders as soon as it is available. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event.”
Despite the tragedy, Squeeze’s tour is set to continue in Ohio on Friday (9.04), followed by shows in Illinois, Colorado, Utah, California and more throughout the month, before they return to England in November.
