In advance of next Friday’s (1.12,) movie version of the Mean Girls musical, Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallon have released the video for their “Not My Fault,” collaboration from the film’s soundtrack.
Interspersed with footage from Mean Girls: The Musical, the video features the superstar rapper and actress/singer (as the film’s antagonist, Regina George,) performing the song.
Ahead of Reneé’s performance at TikTok’s In the Mix Live music event, Megan Thee Stallion first announced the collab in December on Instagram, writing “What’s up y’all? It’s Megan Thee Stallion, aka the Black Regina George, and I’m excited to introduce my girl to the stage.” “We have a new song coming out for Mean Girls. That’s right, give it up for the new fantastic plastic, Renee Rapp.”
When she was 19 years old, Rapp starred in Mean Girls: The Musical on Broadway but only because she saw it as a stepping stone to the career she really wanted. “I told them, ‘I will only take this job if you promise to help me in my music career one day. I want to be a pop star. I do not want to do this forever,’” stated Reneé to Rolling Stone concerning her conversations with producers Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels.
