From the stage at a sold-out Empower Field at Mile High on Saturday night, Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, confirmed the band’s second studio album of 2022.
Adding to the live announcement 40 minutes into the rainy show, bassist Flea adding “We have a brand new double album stacked to the brim,” “Tippa My Tongue.” “It’s f–king good news, man.”
Due October 14, the new LP Return of the Dream Canteen will be produced by Rick Rubin, who was also involved with the band’s platinum-selling Unlimited Love in April, and past classic Peppers full lengths Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991,) and Californication (1999.)
Celebrating an impressive commercial year, in April, Unlimited Love hit #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart , marking it the band’s first LP to top the listing since Stadium Arcadium in 2006. Lead single “Black Summer” reached #78 on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay listing for four weeks, marking their record 14th #1 on that chart.
The band is on its first-ever stadium tour, including Empower Field that drew 50,000 fans for Saturday’s show with Haim and Thundercat. The trek is also the rockers first in 15 years with original guitarist John Frusciante, a core band member during the ’90s and ’00s commercial and artistic peak.
Taking to social media the legendary rockers shared news of the new set along with a pre-sale link.
