Candid about his interest in getting back onstage with his bandmates, Keith Richards, 82, and Ronnie Wood, 79, Sir Mick Jagger hinted the Rolling Stones could tour in 2027.
Appearing on TODAY’s Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist, the 82-year singer/songwriter said:
“Well, I’d love to. I really want to. And, I’m ready to go.” “I don’t think we’re gonna do shows this year, but hopefully we’ll do shows next year.”
Addressing their forthcoming full length Foreign Tongues as an amalgamation of different “styles,” Mick said “You hope that every track has got something for everyone. That’s why you’ve got, you know, 14 tracks.”
Scheduled to drop on July 10, the legendary band’s upcoming LP follows the Grammy-winning success of 2023’s Hackney Diamonds and the band’s 2024 North American tour.
Featuring collaborations with Sir Paul McCartney, The Cure frontman Robert Smith and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, the forthcoming collection has already generated significant attention.
During his May interview, Guitarist Richards also addressed the possibility of future touring:
“I mean, we can talk next year. Possibly.” “At the moment we’re just sort of saying we finished the record, let’s do this. And so we’re basically considering what to do after, you know, pretty soon. But I don’t think… Not this year, anyway.”
As The Rolling Stones continue to defy expectations more than six decades in, the UK group’s future plans have become a major talking point among their worldwide fanbase.
Addressing the stamina required for recording and performing in his eighties, Jagger said:
“Well, that’s just being fit. You have to work at that, whatever age you are, and if you’re my age you have to really work at it. You don’t get around as good. You have to really work at it.” “It’s just discipline and a lot of hard work – otherwise you can’t do that. And of course, I can’t do the things I did when I was 21, but I can do other things.”
Discussing the Foreign Tongues recording process during the Brooklyn launch event for the record, Mick said: “We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could,” with Keith adding “It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
