Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Vampire’ Piano Version: Look + Listen

In the stripped-down, live performance version posted on YouTube Thursday (July 6), Olivia Rodrigo removes the lion’s share of drama included in her original, just released ‘Vampire’ single.

Unlike the LP version of the 20-year old’s first single from her sophomore album, Guts, that opens with a somber sound with the superstar songstress whisper-singing the biting lyrics that develops into a a solid beat, strings and a bull-rush arrangement, Rodrigo’s grand piano take remains docile.

The superstar singer/songwriter’s acoustic video opens with an arial shot of Olivia playing the keys while singing the song’s initial verse. “I I hate to give the satisfaction, asking how you’re doing now/ How’s the castle built off people you pretend to care about?/ Just what you wanted/ Look at you, cool guy, you got it.”

As the musician moves into the first chorus, the camera captures Rodrigo in profile as her passion rises when she hits the refrain with “I used to think I was smart/ But you made me look so naïve/ The way you sold me for parts/ As you sunk your teeth into me, oh/ Bloodsucker, famef–ker/ Bleedin’ me dry like a goddamn vampire.”

Olivia Rodrigo’s second album, Guts, is due out September 8.
