NY Rapper Max B Released From Jail

After serving a 16-year prison sentence for his role in a botched armed robbery that resulted in a man’s death, Harlem-born rapper Max B was released on Sunday (11.09.)

Prior to his 2007 incarceration on manslaughter and armed robbery charges, the now 47-year old musician released a string of mixtapes and popularized the term “wavy.”

It was earlier this year that the rapper (born Charley Wingate) told the Joe Budden Podcast during a phone interview from prison that he would be released on November 9, adding “I’m feeling righteous, man.” “I’m doing all right. This is almost over. Wavy Baby coming home real soon.”

As an accomplice to a robbery in New Jersey that ended in murder, Max B was initially sentenced to 75 years in prison, but his conviction was vacated in 2016, after a new legal team argued his original trial lawyer had a conflict of interest in the case and his sentence was reduced to 20 years.

Among those who greeted the rapper following his weekend release, French Montana, with whom Max B collaborated on their 2009 mixtape Coke Wave, took to social media with “Can’t make this up! My brother really came home on my bday!”

Though being behind bars, over the years the rapper released new music from prison, oft times recording over the phone. He appeared on the track ‘Siiiiiiiiilver Surffffeeeeer Intermission’ on Kanye West’s 2016 album, The Life of Pablo, and earlier this year, he contributed Max B Interlude to Wiz Khalifa’s Kush + Orange Juice 2.

Hinting at new music, Max took took to social media with “It’s time to open the flood gates. See yall in a few.”
