In July, R&B songstress Nivea announced that she’d been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) at the start of the year.
During this week’s appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, the musician (born Nivea B. Hamilton) shared that she’s now “very grateful” to be in remission after undergoing a series of treatments.
Emphasizing that she’s still dealing with some symptoms, the 44-year old singer went on to explain how she “couldn’t believe” the pace of her recovery, adding:
“It’s been an adjustment, like the symptoms.” “I’m tired a lot. I have other issues. I’m bleeding. I have fibroids. It’s a long little list, but I’m still on the better side than most. I’m not complaining… I’m not complaining at all.”
Thanking Dr. Colin Vale and his team for their care, the Atlanta-native said:
“I couldn’t believe it because this happened to me this year, only a few months ago.” “And Dr. Vale, even though explaining to me the success rate of the drug, we still didn’t know. We have to monitor, (as) everybody’s different, how your body reacts to the medications.”
In addition to her addressing her health, the mother of four revealed that she is training to be an audio engineer and is taking vocal lessons amid her recovery, explaining “I’ve never had vocal training all these years. Yes. I was, you know, self-taught. And so I said, ‘Let me learn some tricks and tools to be better.’ “
