Following suit to a series of iconic rock bands biographies, Netflix is reportedly close to locking in a deal for Shout It Out Loud, a film that aspires to do for the iconic hard rock band KISS what Bohemian Rhapsody did for Queen and Rocketman did for Sir Elton John.
Shout It Out Loud promises to involve close collaboration and input from the band founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. The legendary rockers’ concert-arena anthems will, if course, play a major role and the film will also focus on the duo’s beginnings, revisiting their days as two misfit kids from Queens who formed an unlikely friendship, starting KISS after enlisting guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss. Attempting to set themselves apart from the “hair” bands of the day, the foursome accented their power chords, pyrotechnics and makeup … and the rest is history.
The forthcoming biopic will be directed by Joachim Rønning, the Norwegian filmmaker whose credits include Kon-Tiki, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The script is written by Ole Sanders and the film will be a co-production between Mark Canton’s Atmosphere Entertainment and Universal Music Group.
As the band is in the midst of its “End of the Road Tour,” there’s every reason to believe that Netflix and KISS will use the synergy of a big rock biopic to memorialize their final days on stage.
