Following a 2022 rape charge, Mystikal has been sentenced to a two-decade long prison sentence.
Born Michael Tyler, the rapper was arrested in July 2022 and later charged with first-degree rape, simple robbery, domestic-abuse battery, along with false imprisonment, and during this week’s Louisiana’s Ascension Parish Court hearing, the defendant was sentenced to 20 years in jail for third-degree rape.
As part of a plea deal that precluded the maximum, 25-year life sentence, in March of 2026, the now 55-year-old musician pleaded guilty to third-degree rape.
According to editors at WBRZ, Tyler attempted to address his victim at the sentencing, stating “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence.”
Claiming he “did not have sufficient opportunity to fully consider the consequences,” just prior to his sentencing, the artist’s attorney asked the judge to withdraw the guilty plea. However, the request was rejected.
Included in his sentence, Tyler will be registered as a lifetime sex offender and will remain so following his release from prison.
Not his first such brush with the law, the felon was previously convicted of sexual battery after assaulting his hairstylist in 2003, subsequent to which the disgraced hip-hop star spent six years in prison for the offense before being released in 2010.
