Mary J. Blige Joins Jill Biden For White House Cancer Roundtable

Teaming up with superstar singer/songwriter Mary J. Blige for a roundtable event, Dr Jill Biden is providing a star-studded launch for a new effort tied to President Biden’s “cancer moonshot” initiative,

According to Friday’s White House press release, on Monday (10.24) the iconic R&B chanteuse will join Jill Biden to kick off the American Cancer Society’s National Roundtables on Breast and Cervical Cancer. The collection of roundtable discussions is focused on bringing together “leading organizations and experts to drive progress and improve the lives of people living with cancer, as well as support their families.”

Joe and Jill Biden began the cancer moonshot initiative in 2016 and relaunched the health-focused initiative in February with the goal of cutting the cancer death rate by 50% over the next 25 years. The then-vice president’s son, Beau Biden, died in 2015 from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Now 51 years old, Blige has been an advocate for preventative cancer screenings with the multi-Grammy Award winner stating that several of her close family members had died from breast, cervical and lung cancer.

In a 2021 interview with Essence magazine, Mary J, stated “I didn’t know about breast cancer or mammograms until I was 40 and I was in the music business and I was trying to take care of myself,” “My body started talking so I started listening.”
