Weeks before her centenarian birthday, Betty White has passed away.
At 99, Betty White entertained generations of audiences and for those who’ve ever owned a television or been to the movies, you’ve seen her at least once.
With credits that include numerous game-show and variety-show appearances to cartoon voices – including Toy Story 4, The Simpsons, and SpongeBob SquarePants – to her unforgettable roles as Sue Ann Nivens in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nylund in The Golden Girls, America’s favorite nonagenarian once dreamed of singing at the Metropolitan Opera as Carmen, Violetta or Brünnhilde.
In a 2012 interview she gave to The Canadian Press, Ms White revealed that she once had a very different type of performing career in mind, stating: “[W]hen I was a youngster, I wanted to be an opera singer, so I took very serious singing lessons,” adding that she doesn’t have an opera repertoire anymore “So I vocalize [now] every once in a while, but only when nobody’s home.”
Though she’s best known for her impeccable comic timing, Betty’s shown off her vocal skills throughout various points in her career.
Today we say ‘goodbye’ to an American treasure and a class act. God bless you Betty White.
