Kodak Black has been arrested again, this time on drug possession charges in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Born Bill Kahan Kapri, the 25-year-old rapper, was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol on Friday (7.15) for suspected illegal window tint and after smelling marijuana and searching his SUV, police found 31 oxycodone pills and approximately $75,000 in cash, according to TMZ. Record checks also revealed that Black’s vehicle tag and driver’s license were both expired, according to the Associated Press.
Taken to Broward County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance without prescription and trafficking in oxycodone, online records show that a $75,000 bond was negotiated during a bail hearing on Saturday morning.
About the arrest the rapper’s lawyer Bradford Cohen told Billboard “Never judge a case based on an arrest.” “There are facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case. We negotiated a bond of 75,000 and we will move forward with resolving the matter quickly.”
Throughout the years Black has faced a number of legal problems, including a three-year federal prison sentence in 2019 after pleading guilty to weapons charges. The hip-hop star served about half the term before being given a last-minute pardon by former President Donald Trump.
Black, who was shot earlier this year during a Super Bowl afterparty in Los Angeles, has also been previously charged at various times with robbery, sexual assault, false imprisonment, fleeing a law enforcement officer, probation violations and more.
