Jack White Drops New LP

Through a subtly updated description on his official web store, Jack White confirmed the release of his new album Frozen Charlotte.

What is his seventh studio LP, the listing describing the project as showing Jack “at his best; backed by an incredible band… whose collective hand is scorching hot after coming off a tour of universally-acclaimed performances,” adding that the group “went straight to work in the studio and laid down what became Frozen Charlotte,” recording the project at his Third Man Studio in Nashville.

What the online description calls “raucous, raw, and frenetic energy” with blues influences running underneath, the 13-track collection is available in two vinyl editions – a blue swirl and a creamy crumpled variant.

Using Instagram to explain the album’s striking artwork, the superstar singer/songwriter told fans the cover began when a 1940s chalk-ware sailor statue fell in his studio and broke, adding “I grab a nearby blue skull shaker percussion object and glue it in the head’s place. I paint the body white and suddenly an all new character avatar that I called ‘Frozen Charlotte’ came to life. (sic)”

The 50-year old musician went on to explain that a “frozen Charlotte” refers to a Victorian penny doll linked to an old folk song about a girl who froze to death. White said he scanned and 3D-printed multiple versions of the figure, including a chrome alter-ego called the Frozen Charlatan, adding: “Many versions of the sculpture started to come out of me, different personalities and characters… all of which are in the art show.”

Those pieces are currently on display at his These Thoughts May Disappear exhibition at Newport Street Gallery in London until September 13.

Fans previously spotted a hint of the album when the single ‘G.O.D.’ and the ‘Broken Ribs’ briefly went on sale and sold out instantly.

Frozen Charlotte follows 2024’s No Name, which also had an unusual roll-out.

The former White Stripes star first circulated the album through unmarked white vinyl slipped into purchases at his Third Man Records shops in Detroit, London and Nashville, as well as through mailings to his vinyl club subscribers. Blue vinyl copies later appeared at his live shows, before he finally confirmed a full release under the title.
