Italy Bans Travis Scott + Kanye West Concerts

Citing severe public order and security concerns, Italian authorities have officially banned forthcoming concerts by American rappers Kanye West and Travis Scott, following a direct request from the local Jewish community to cancel West’s scheduled performance, stated the BBC.

Originally slated to take place in July at the RFC Arena in the northern city of Reggio Emilia, following safety assessments by local officials, Prefect Salvatore Angieri confirmed the cancellation, after leader of the local Jewish community, Nicoletta Uzzielli urged authorities to block the concert, calling for the show to be replaced with a performance that would bring “music back to the forefront as a universally unifying force.”

Citing “real risk of counter-demonstrations,” the regional prefecture’s decision was influenced by the cancellation of the rapper’s previous concerts in other countries. Officials additionally noted that scheduling the massive back-to-back on July 17th and 18th events posed a logistical danger due to the immense crowds each artist attracts. Not his first such challenge, since the 2021 Astroworld festival tragedy in Houston, which resulted in ten deaths, Scott has faced intense scrutiny.

In addition to Travis Scott, West, has sparked global outrage over a string of antisemitic, racist, and pro-Nazi comments, that led to recently being banned from entering the United Kingdom, forcing the cancellation of London’s Wireless Festival which precipitated a domino effect of cancellations, including postponed dates in Marseille, France, and a canceled stadium show in Chorzów, Poland.

Had the concerts been approved, the multi-artist lineup in Italy was set to feature such major acts as The Chainsmokers, Rita Ora, and Swedish House Mafia.
