In the latest episode of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert, The Isley Brothers performed their greatest hits.
Recorded at the brothers home studio in St. Louis, Missouri, the Isley’s performance opened with a rendition of “Between the Sheets” complete with Ronald’s nod to The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Big Poppa,” (which sampled the soul brothers original song,) that seamlessly transitioned into “Footsteps in the Dark,” (famously sampled by Ice Cube.)
The Isley Brothers delivered their classic 1975 single, “For the Love of You,” then closed out their virtual Tiny Desk set with “That Lady” after Ronald intro’d the finale by talking about how the song was inspired by Jimi Hendrix, and how decades later it was sampled by Kendrick Lamar on his Grammy-winning song, “i.”
The Isley’s have had quite the busy 2021 and a boost on the charts from their Verzuz battle with Earth, Wind and Fire. And as for the the band’s latest release (since their 2017 collaborative album with Santana, Power of Peace) the legendary brothers’ put out “Friends and Family” featuring Snoop Dogg,
