With the likes of Common and Pete Rock‘s highly anticipated collaboration released on Friday (7.12), and Nas and DJ Premier‘s plans to drop a project,TMZ recently connected with Fat Joe to get his thoughts on veteran rappers and producers aligning forces to drop albums.
Addressing the question about who might have the better full length, the Bronx -born rapper said he has high hopes for both projects and revealed his own plans for the summer, adding “I think they’re both gonna be classics.” “And breaking news — Fat Joe will be dropping an album in August, too, so put me in that list of pioneers, legends and icons.”
Born Joseph Antonio Cartagena, the NYC native has already begun heating things up with Joey Crack and Remy Ma releasing the single “Outta Control” on Friday (7.12), where the chorus includes DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince‘s classic “Summertime.”
While there’s no firm release date or title for his new collection, this will be Fat Joe’s first solo LP in 14 years. Since releasing The Darkside Vol. 1 in 2010, Joe has dropped three collaborative albums, including Plata O Plomo with Remy (2017,) Family Ties with Dre from Cool & Dre (2019,) and What Would Big Do with DJ Drama (2021.)
Not the only rap icons scheduled to release full lengths in 2024, LL Cool J‘s The FORCE is due in September, and Rakim is dropping his self-produced album G.O.D.’s Network (Reb7rth) within several weeks.
Crack also has an interview show with Starz on the way entitled Fat Joe Talks where the rapper will “give viewers unique access into the lives of today’s most influential personalities who drive the cultural zeitgeist,” according to Deadline.
