After breaking into the superstar rapper’s homes three times within six years, Eminem‘s stalker has once again been convicted.
During a Detroit trial earlier this week, the multi-Grammy award winning rapper and his security boss took the stand to testify against Matthew David Hughes.
Scheduled to be sentenced on June 17 following 90 minutes of deliberations, the jury found the now 32-year old defendant guilty of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking.
After breaking into the the musician’s property in Clinton Township, Detroit, Hughes was taken in on August 2024 and has been in jail since his arrest without the ability to meet bail conditions.
During the brief trial, which began on Tuesday (5.06,) and ended the following day, prosecutor Steve Fox told the court room that Eminem now sleeps in a padlocked room because of his past encounters with Hughes, adding:
“Marshall Mathers has taken extraordinary steps to protect himself and his family.” “Security 24/7. And each time that step has had to increase, but only as the result of one person’s actions, Matthew Hughes.”
It was in 2019 that the perpetrator received his first conviction when he illegally entered the hitmaker’s former home and spent 90 days in prison for breaking and entering.
In 2020, Hughes again broke into Eminem’s Clinton Township house while the musician (born Marshall Mathers) was asleep inside the property. At the time, the now 52-years musician told police that he awoke to find the assailant in his bedroom and was told that he “was there to kill him”.
As part of his deal, Hughes pleaded guilty to the 2020 incident and was sentenced to five years of probation. However, with an unrelated assault, the terms of his probation were violated and went back to prison in 2021 and was released on parole in May 2024.
