Subsequent to the success of Play, his ninth #1 UK LP, Ed Sheeran has released ‘Play – The Remixes EP.’
Born from his transformative month-long stay in India, the superstar singer/songwriter’s remixed collection is a vibrant cross-cultural collaboration featuring some of South Asia’s most celebrated musicians.
Included in Sheeran’s new collection is the hypnotic new track, “Symmetry,” featuring Punjabi star Karan Aujla along with a video showcasing a high-energy performance by Sheeran, Aujla, and the globally renowned dance crew The Quick Style.
Combining pop sensibilities with diverse Asian sounds, the EP reimagines four songs from the original Play LP, including the acclaimed rapper Hanumankind, Tamil vocalist Dhee, composer Santhosh Narayanan, singer Jonita, and, of course, Karan Aujla. The project also features a new version of the 500,000.000 streamed hit “Sapphire,” now featuring Arijit Singh.
Crediting his time in India where he immersed himself in the local music scene while recording Play, Ed said “I’ve loved this collaboration process so much and I wanted to represent as much as I could on this EP,” and about “Symmetry,” he added, “Karan is culture… I feel like this is the beginning of our collaborative journey, and I’m so excited to create more.”
Recorded with Jonita, the extended play project featured Sheeran’s first-ever Hindi song, “Heaven.” The collection showcases the UK musician’s commitment to artistic exchange and shared voices, successfully fusing global pop with the rich musical traditions of South India and beyond.
