Ed Sheeran Covers Classics During Impromptu Ibiza Show: Look + Listen

On Monday night (9.26) at the House in Paradise beach club in Ibiza Ed Sheeran took the stage to play an unannounced four-song set that included one of his biggest hits with a trio of drunken last-call sing-alongs.

In footage of the impromptu gig patrons are keeping to themselves while a DJ spins some tunes when one of the club owners announces, “we’ve got a very, very special guest in the house… because we have got not one of, we’ve got the biggest pop star in the world. You know who it is… ladies and gentleman Mr. Ed Sheeran!”

Dressed in simple green shorts and a white t-shirt, the superstar singer/songwriter hoisted a wine glass as he tells the excited crowd that he’s going to sing one of his and “then we’re going to have a sing-song” as Sheeran then launched into his #1 2017 Billboard charting hit “Shape of You.”

“I love karaoke. I’m gonna sing karaoke now and you’re gonna sing along with me,” said Ed before breaking into an a cappella intro of the Backstreet Boys’ iconic “I Want It That Way” as he jumped into the middle of the crowd to sing among the sea of onlookers.

Sheeran then returned to the stage and busted into Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” as he led the crowd in the “touching hands, reaching out” chant.

The unexpected concert closed with the DJ cueing up Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time,” at which time the house sang off-key harmonies to Sheeran’s lead vocals. The set closed with the celebrity singer throwing a giant Pokemon plushie into the air as Sheeran will release his new Pokémon-themed single “Celestial” on Thursday (9.29) accompanied by a music video illustrated by the video game’s animators.
