On Friday (12.08,) taking to social media, Dancing With the Stars judge, Derek Hough provided an update on his wife, Hayley Erbert’s health condition following emergency brain surgery.
Writing “on the long road of recovery” via Instagram, Derek continued:
“Hayley has always inspired me with her will, her strength, and her resilience and no more so than in the last 48 hrs.” “She is now on the long road of recovery.” “Words cannot express how grateful and thankful we are for the support and love that you have given us. The kindness that we’ve been shown in this incredibly unfathomable and life-changing time is immeasurable. The offers of assistance that have poured in have been so humbling and appreciated.” “Our hope is that as a family, we can somehow and some way pay it forward.”
Now 38, Hough revealed earlier in the week that Erbert, who is also a professional dancer, was hospitalized after becoming “disoriented” following A Symphony of Dance performance in Washington, D.C. She was subsequenrtly diagnosed with a “cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniotomy.”
The Mayo Clinic defines an intracranial hematoma as a “collection of blood within the skull. It’s usually caused by a blood vessel that bursts in the brain.” The condition may be caused by “trauma such as a car accident or fall,” the Mayo Clinic states. “The blood may collect in the brain tissue or underneath the skull, pressing on the brain.”
Hough and Erbert began dating in 2015 while appearing on DWTS and married in August 2023.
