Billy Ray Cyrus’ Inauguration Ball Disaster: Look + Listen

On Monday night (1.20) during one of three inauguration balls for newly elected President, Billy Ray Cyrus struggled through a performance riddled with technical difficulties.

When the country musician and father of pop superstar Miley Cyrus took to the stage at the Liberty Ball, he battled through a horse voice and when he attempted to sing ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ his guitar went dead.

After claiming he’d been asked to fill time, he told the crowd “Is my guitar still on? I think they cut me off.” “Is my guitar on guys? I don’t hear my guitar anymore. Uh, check, is anybody awake? I don’t hear it? Do y’all hear this? Where’s everybody at? Is anyone back there? Can somebody turn my guitar back on? We’re going to sing a little bit more.”

When the technicians came out and tried to fix his guitar, the now 63-year old musician killed time by praising fellow country star Carrie Underwood for her performance during Trump’s inauguration ceremony, saying:

“Wasn’t Carrie Underwood fabulous?” “They had technical difficulties, too. And in life, when you have technical difficulties, you just gotta keep going. Or as President Trump would say, ‘You gotta fight!'”

Cyrus was referring to Underwood’s a cappella performance of ‘America The Beautiful’ when her orchestral track cut out.

When the technical team was unable to correct his guitar issue, Billy Ray launched into an a cappella version of ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ as his final song of the night, after which the musician’s microphone was turned off, the lights were dimmed and he was awkwardly escorted off the stage.
