After realizing that members of her audience were trying to film under her dress, Shakira left the stage.
The incident occurred while the superstar singer was dancing onstage to ‘Soltera,’ her new single at LIV Miami.
A video that has gone viral shows the now 47-year-old musician stopping mid-performance, while holding down her skirt with both hands as she shook her head at the people in the crowd while gesturing that she knew what they were trying to do. The Columbia chanteuse then walked off the stage, where she was met by security in the VIP area.
Fellow Latin singer Anitta, who appears on ‘Soltera’ was also at the event and could be seen asking Shakira if she was alright after she came off stage.
Taking to social media, fans defended Shakira with “That’s truly disappointing behaviour,” wrote one. “Artists deserve respect and privacy, both on and off stage. It’s crucial to ensure a safe environment for everyone.” Another agreed, “People are gross.”
In March the Latin artist (born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll,) released Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, her first full length in seven years with many of the songs addressing her 2022 split with her long-term partner, former Spanish soccer player, Gerard Pique with whom she has two sons together, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.
At the time of the break up Shakira said, “About Voldemort, the one who cannot be named? I hope this is the last song I write about this, and about him. I felt like there was still something there, stuck in my throat, and I needed to get it out. I played it to the head of marketing at Sony and he started crying. I’d never seen a man cry in my studio before.”
