The latest in ever-increasing list of misdeeds, Kanye West is facing yet another copyright lawsuit, this time accusing him of using an instrumental track in two of his songs after his original permission request was denied.
Filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday (7.17,) the new suit alleges that Kanye illegally incorporated elements of the song ‘MSD PT2’ in two of his own songs ‘Moon’ and ‘Hurricane’ included in his 2021 LP, Donda. The company that owns the rights to the original song has formally accused the embattled rapper of “stealing” it.
According to Billboard, Oren Warshavsky, the plaintiff’s attorney said “This lawsuit is about more than defendants’ failure to pay a fee.” “It is about the rights of artists, musicians, and songwriters to determine how their works are published and used.” “Intellectual property owners have a right to decide how their property is exploited and need to be able to prevent shameless infringers from simply stealing.”
The lawsuit additionally states that in an act of “blatant brazenness,” West credited the original creators of ‘MSD PT2’ as songwriters, despite the fact that they refused his request to work with them.
The latest legal issue comes on the heels of the controversial musician settling a lawsuit brought by the estate of Donna Summer after it was alleged that he and fellow rapper Ty Dolla $ign used the Disco legend’s 1977 song I Feel Love without permission in their track ‘Good (Don’t Lie).’
Concerning similar claims, the multi-Grammy award winner was previously sued by the rap group Boogie Down Productions, Marshall Jefferson and a Texas pastor, among others,
