In their remix of ‘Girl, So Confusing,’ Lorde and Charli XCX appear to have resolved their publicized differences.
Featured on Brat, her sixth studio LP, the UK pop star (born Charlotte Emma Aitchison) has released a remix of the song that features the New Zealand singer (born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor.)
Shortly after Charli’s full length dropped earlier this month, rumors circulated that the track was about Lorde.
Including such lyrics as “People say we’re alike/ They say we’ve got the same hair/ We talk about making music/ But I don’t know if it’s honest” the song appears to reflect a complicated relationship with a fellow female songstress.
By singing “Well honestly I was speechless/ When I woke up to your voice note / You told me how you’ve been feeling / Let’s work it out on the remix.” “You’d always say, ‘Let’s go out’/ But then I’d cancel last minute/ I was so lost in my head/ And scared to be in the pictures,” Lorde confirms that the song is, indeed, about her.
Elsewhere in her verse, the ‘Royals’ chanteuse states that she was “trapped in hatred” and that Charli’s life “seemed so awesome” but that she had no idea her voice was in XCX’s head, followed by the pre-chorus when they duet “And when we put this to bed/ The internet will go crazy.”
The day Brat was released, Lorde took to social media and praised Charli on Instagram Stories with “The only album I’ve ever presaved is out today.” “Charli just cooked this one different… So much grit, grace and skin in the game. I speak for all of us when I say it’s an honor to be moved, changed and gagged by her work. There is NO ONE like this b**ch.”
Titled ‘The Girl, So Confusing Version with Lorde’ the remix is now available on streaming services.
