Adding another milestone to her creative repertoire, Beyoncé just made music history by becoming the very first Black woman to secure a #1 single on the American country chart.
Following its release during the Super Bowl (2.11,) the superstar singer has nabbed the top slot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with ‘Texas Hold ‘Em.’ And she is only the second female solo artist to debut at #1 on that chart, following Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’ and ‘All Too Well’ re-releases in 2021.
Additionally, Queen Bey is the first woman to top both Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts since Billboard began they began in 1958. Male musicians Morgan Wallen, Justin Bieber, Billy Ray Cyrus and Ray Charles have previously achieved this feat.
During Super Bowl Sunday, Mrs Carter announced Renaissance Act II, her ninth studio LP will be released on March 29, and in celebration she decided to simultaneously release ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ and ’16 Carriages,’ the latter of which entered the Hot 100 at #38 and at #9 on on Hot Country Songs.
While some country music stations have yet to play the mega-artists’s new material, country stars Maren Morris and Lainey Wilson have recently praised Beyoncé’s new crossover.
“I think the leaning into country elements, and sort of reclaiming country music back to Black people, because they created the genre, is such a statement,” said Maren to E! News, while Lainey told Extra, “I love it. The more the merrier.”
