Reimagining the trio’s hit single, “Tu Hai Kahan,” Zayn Malik has collaborated with up-and-coming Pakistani group Aur.
Performing in his native tongue Urdu, the former One Direction member joins the Middle Eastern trio and, revealing the recording process in his home studio, he states “I was incredibly humbled when AUR reached out and asked me to collaborate on their song ‘Tu Hai Kahan.” “I love the song and have brought some of myself to it. I hope people love what we’ve done.”
Comprised of band members Ahad, Usama, and Raffey, Aur added “We are super excited for this collaboration as it shows that music has no boundaries. ‘Tu Hai Kahan’ is such a special song to us, and it’s hard to describe how amazed we were when we first heard Zayn’s voice on the track. We’re taking Pakistani music global, and we can’t wait for the world to vibe to our music.”
Securing the #1 position on several South Asian charts, including on Spotify India and Pakistan, “Tu Hai Kahan” was originally released in 2023.
What was to become the beginning of a new musical era for the Malik, last summer he shared “Love Like This,” and sat down with Alex Cooper for the Call Her Daddy podcast to address his return to music and his stint in One Direction.
“I’m doing a record I don’t think people are really gonna expect. It’s a different sound for me,” he said. “And it’s got some more narrative going on, like real-life experiences and stuff. My daughter’s mentioned in there a couple of times.”
In 2016, Malik released his debut LP Mind of Mine, an R&B record that received critical acclaim, and featured singles “Pillowtalk” and “Befour.” The singer later released the album Icarus Falls in 2018 and Nobody Is Listening in 2021, and he also contributed original songs to animated film 10 Lives, which will premiere at Sundance this month.
