On Thursday (9.21,), Will Smith announced that he will be hosting ‘Class of ’88,’ a new podcast series celebrating hip-hop from 1988.
Featuring the likes of Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Rakim, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels and others, Smith stated “Hip-hop has been a central part of my life for over four decades,” Will has said. “I’m hyped to share my first-hand experiences and those of some of hip-hop’s greatest legends as we delve into the origins of one of the most influential genres of music in history.”
Taking a deep dive into the genre of music that was created in 1988, the now 55-year old former rapper will share his own perspective on the industry that gave birth to his music career as the well-known hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.
Having released five studio LPs, the Smith and Jeffrey Allen Townes starting creating music together in 1985 before Will launched his solo career in 1997 with ‘Men in Black,’ the theme song from the film of the same name that topped the charts throughout the world.
Kicking off October 26 on Amazon Music and Audible, the eight ‘Class of ’88,’ episodes will include interviews, untold stories, archival material and personal recounts from the actor/musician himself.
