Performing an 80s style power ballad with Guns N Roses’ Slash on guitar, the latest clip from the highly promoted Barbie film sees Ryan Gosling singing ‘Just Ken’ and branding his character as just some guy when he sings “I just don’t know who I am without you.” “But it’s Barbie and Ken. There is no just Ken.”
Incredibly blonde and physically ripped, Ken realizes his value through words of self-affirmation as he sings “I’m just Ken and I’m enough/And I’m great at doing stuff.”
When he sees Barbie (played by Margot Robbie) at a party from afar he sings: “No matter what I do/I’m always number two/no one knows how hard I try.”
Written by executive music producer Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, about ‘Just Ken’ Ronson recently said “I don’t read a lot of scripts, but it was just everything I want in a movie.” “I was like, ‘If I don’t get this gig, this is gonna be my favorite movie of the year.’ ”
About Slash’s involvement in his song, Ronson recently told Variety:
“Slash is my hero. I grew up, I was like seventh grade when ‘Appetite For Destruction’ came out. He’s my all-time hero, I had pictures of Slash all over my wall.” “When we were getting this song odne i was like… it never hurts to ask! It seems like such a long shot!” “I sent him the song and he was like, ‘This is a good song’. I didn’t know Slash that well before this, and he was like, ‘Cool, I’ll play on it.’ “He killed it, and he plays the solo at the end and the rhythm parts. It’s wonderful.”
