Charli XCX’s scheduled 12.18 performance with Caroline Polachek and Christine and the Queens on Saturday Night Live this week was been canceled.
On Saturday, America’s afternoon the longest running comedy skit show announced that due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, there would be no live audience for the show with limited cast and crew in the studio. Though Paul Rudd was still scheduled to host, Charlie (born ?) announced the cancellation yesterday on social media.
Last month, the three artists released “New Shapes” and drummer Luis Aponte intended to join them for the SNL appearance, having caught Charli’s attention with a video of him performing at a festival in Pennsylvania over the summer. Aponte usually plays with the Philadelphia hardcore band Jesus Piece, whose most recent album is their 2018 debut Only Self.
In September Charli released “Good Ones,” followed by the Perfume Genius remix earlier this month. Her next full length, Crash, is scheduled for March, and she’ll launch an extensive North American and European tour in California come the new year.
