Taylor Swift stunned the world (for the second time) six months ago when she announced her long-awaited full-length Evermore, a surprise album that nobody saw coming.
Now, half a year later, the LP has shattered the all-time record for the most vinyl sold in a single week, according to a popular music ranking company. To date, the collection has sold over 40,000 pieces of wax within three days time, shattering an all-time record that had stood for several years.
Prior to this week’s accomplishment, the record for the most single-week sales of a vinyl album was held by Jack White, whose summer 2014 solo effort Lazaretto sold 40,000 copies. Despite stiff competition from artists like as Paul McCartney, Lana Del Rey, and Ariana Grande, all of whom achieved record-breaking sales figures for the same format in 2021, the rocker retained possession over that one piece of history … until this week. Evermore‘s total sales figures within the first week of vinyl release is unknown, but according to some estimates, it may be twice as much as what has already been purchased, if not more.
Swift’s vinyl sales performance is especially outstanding given that Evermore is not a new release. The title debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in December 2020 and went on to reign supreme for three non-consecutive weeks on the all-genre list. The album, which acted as a follow-up to Swift’s other surprise release Folklore, is on the verge of reclaiming the top spot on the albums chart, returning to the top 10 for another run near the top. And, if it weren’t for Olivia Rodrigo‘s first full-length Sour, which is very guaranteed to hold its #1 position for the second week, Evermore may have had a shot at jumping all the way to the top, since it may sell 100,000 equivalent sales.
