Kacey Musgraves’ Un-Permitted LP Cover

While posing with a “really sweet” bull for her latest album cover photoshoot, Kacey Musgraves recalled how she was approached by local the police.

It was during an interview for CBS News’ Sunday Morning that the superstar singer/songwriter discussed enlisting her sister, Kelly Sutton, to shoot the artwork for her upcoming LP, Middle of Nowhere.

After the ladies decided that the Country musician should pose next to a bull on a quiet Dallas, Texas street, they didn’t quite think through the logistics beforehand.

“I called my friend Evan, I was like, ‘Do you have any bulls that you could bring?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, actually I’ve got a really sweet one. His name is Tex,’ ” “And at one point like, the police come over. They’re like, ‘Do you guys have a permit for this?’ And we’re like, ‘No?’ And they were like, ‘All right,” recalled the Grammy award winner.

Scheduled for a May 1 drop date, Kacey’s seventh studio LP, Middle of Nowhere features the single ‘ Dry Spell.

Reflecting on its musical content, the 37-year old artist said that she wanted to explore what she had learned while single, adding:

“It’s nice just to be able to stop the tape and kind of evaluate, like, ‘Okay, why do I make these choices? How am I drawn to certain archetypes of people? What does that say about me?'” “Now, I realise that there’s nothing more lonely than being in a relationship that isn’t right for you. It’s way more lonely than being actually just by yourself.”

Married to Ruston Kelly from 2017 until their divorce was final in September of 2020, the Texas native dated poet Cole Schafer for two years. And while referencing the lyrics in ‘Dry Spell,’ Musgraves seemed to indicate that she was seeing someone new, joking “The dry spell was broken, I’ll just say that.” “The dry spell is broken, I’ve got everything I need!”
