Following years of not taking home the trophy for this highly regarded category, on Sunday night (2.02,) Beyoncé took to the microphone for a heartfelt speech after finally winning Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
Denied of the prestigious prize four prior times, it was two members of the Los Angeles Fire Department that presented the superstar singer/songwriter with the award for Cowboy Carter, Bey’s eighth studio album.
This year’s win established Beyoncé as the first Black woman to win Album of the year this century.
After hugging her daughter Blue Ivy Carter and husband Jay-Z in the audience, Beyoncé took to the Grammy stage and started her acceptance speech by thanking the Los Angeles first responders for their work in fighting the wildfires that broke out across the state in January.
Before insisting she felt “very full and very honored” to finally win the accolade “It’s been many, many years,” the now 35-time Grammy winner said “I’d like to thank and acknowledge and praise all of the firefighters for keeping us safe.”
Queen Bey recognized her team and dedicated the prize to Linda Martell (who’s featured on two Cowboy …songs,) one of the first commercially successful Black female artists in country music and the first to play the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.
“I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer for all of the hard work. I want to dedicate this to Ms. Martell. I hope we keep pushing forward opening doors. God bless y’all, thank you so much,” added the now 43-year-old added songstress.
Following his wife’s winning speech, Jay-Z was seen toasting a glass of Champagne with Taylor Swift, as host Trevor Noah commented, “We’ve finally seen it happen, everyone.”
In addition to the aforementioned grand prize, the Texas-born singer also won Best Country Album, outdoing Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, and Post Malone.
Looking stunned as presenter and fellow superstar Taylor Swift called out her name as the winner, Beyoncé insisted she was “really not expecting this” and thanked “all of the incredible country artists” who had voted for the prize.
