Following Pepsi’s weekend exit from the July event, the financial fallout from the decision to headline Kanye West at London’s Wireless Festival at Finsbury Park continues to escalate as global drinks giant Diageo officially withdrew its sponsorship as well.
In a Sunday statement about their recent decision, a spokesperson for Diageo – the conglomerate behind iconic brands such as Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, and Guinness- confirmed the decision to ITV News, saying “We have informed the organisers of our concerns and, as it stands, Diageo will not sponsor the 2026 Wireless festival.” As Diageo represents one of the most influential backers in the live music industry, their withdrawal marks a significant blow to the festival’s commercial viability,
Ignited by Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s criticism, as “deeply concerning,” given the rapper’s history of antisemitic rhetoric and his explicit celebration of Nazism as “abhorrent,” the corporate exodus was sparked by a wave of high-level political and social condemnation.
Following West’s release of his ‘Heil Hitler’ track and the attempted sale of swastika-themed merchandise, in January the embattled rapper issued a full-page apology in the Wall Street Journal. Attributing his malcontious behavior to a “four-month-long manic episode,” many community leaders feel the gesture is insufficient. Phil Rosenberg, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, described the invitation for West to perform as “absolutely the wrong decision.”
Following recent arson attacks on British Jewish community ambulances and the fatal 2025 attack on the Manchester synagogue, the decision to feature a musician associated with antisemitic hate speech has been deemed “not reflective of London” by critics.
With both beverages giants Diageo and Pepsi severing ties, the pressure is on the festival organizers, who’ve yet to confirm if the event will proceed with its controversial headliner or if further sponsor withdrawals are imminent.
