Mariah Carey Addresses 3rd Rock Hall Nomination

Based on her historic charting record, Mariah Carey believes she deserves a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Having been shortlisted for induction for the third consecutive year in hopes of being granted her place at the esteemed table, in an interview with Billboard she said “felt great” and “It’s definitely an unchecked box.”

When asked why she deserved to be welcomed into the Hall of Fame, the superstar singer added “I would say they should check out the 19 [Billboard Hot 100] Number Ones… not everybody has those to their name.”

Despite previously covering rock songs from the likes of Def Leppard, Foreigner and Journey, the 56-year old chanteuse was told “Stay in your lane,” though she hopes one day that fans will hear her infamous 1995 album Someone’s Ugly Daughter, that she secretly recorded under the pseudonym Chick and was ultimately released with another artist singing lead vocals.

“I want to give people a taste of Someone’s Ugly Daughter… I think it is pretty funny, because I created this thing and what do you do? It’s just there,” said Carey.

When Mariah was honored as MusiCares 2026 Person of the Year, Foo Fighters and Taylor Momsen covered her Someone’s Ugly Daughter tracks ‘Hermit’ and ‘Love Is a Scam’ respectively, and she was delighted with the tribute, adding “That was amazing. Just to feel that whole thing, I don’t even know how to express it.”

Teasing new music in the pipeline, in a recent interview with Variety, the native New Yorker said “I’m definitely recording new music and I’m very excited about it. And yeah, I’m kind of like always recording new music, but I hope it will do well and people will like it. But yeah, new music.”

When asked if she’s working on a new LP, she laughed “When I say that, people get upset with me.”

Addressing her plans for the 25th anniversary of her Glitter movie and soundtrack collection, while the 2001 romantic musical drama flopped at the box office, its soundtrack launched a Justice For Glitter campaign in 2018 – ultimately pushing the album back onto global charts.

Questioned on how she plans to mark the milestone, the Sony Music artist replied “Plans for a deluxe and a reissue, or maybe just one, I don’t know. We’re getting on top of it. I’m excited about it.”

Due to its poor performance, Mariah didn’t like Glitter, but she learned to love it, explaining “I used to hate it. I used to be so like, why did I do that? And then, you know, it became something that I really loved and it just sort of took on its own thing.” Asked why, she quipped: “Because it was a disastrous flop.”
