Though fairly new to musical / pop culture as a solo artist, the 23-year-old Normani creates a one-listen single with her most recent release, “Motivation.” Only a few months old, the Hip Pop artist secures this week’s #4 Breakout position on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
The RCA Records-released production sees the former Fifth Harmony member encouraging her lover to stay “motivated” and doesn’t want to keep putting in unreturned effort. Normani sings on the chorus “I’ma break you off, let me be your motivation/ To stay and give it tonight/ And, baby, turn around, let me give you innovation.” Along with the audio the song is accompanied by a video that finds the songstress acting out her lyrics and making heavy use of classic 90’s R&B aesthetics. Check out the throwback clip here.
In addition to the original version, world renowned DJ/producer/artist Eric Kupper adds his signature House music touch to create a club-ready recording keeping the lyrics intact and reworking the instrumental to make it a club culture banger. Listen to the remix of this week’s #4 Breakout track on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart below.
Sam Smith has stepped into a mentoring position with Normani on their freshly-dropped “Dancing With A Stranger.” With multiple Grammys, a Bond theme and seven U.K. #1s to his name, he is more than qualified to nurture the new efforts of the former Fifth Harmony singer.
On the R&B-influenced pop number courtesy of Universal Music, Sam and Normani sing, “Look what you made me do/I’m with somebody new/oh baby baby I’m dancing with a stranger,” over the ambient instrumental that’s accentuated by just the right amount of percussion.
The Atlanta native, who launched her solo career last year on her debut “Love Lies” with Khalid, enthuses, “I never thought in a trillion years that I would be able to state that I have a record with this extremely gifted being.” Listen to her and Sam Smith’s “Dancing With A Stranger” here.
To the surprise and delight of his fans, day one of Lollapalooza kicked off on Thursday with Khalid bringing Normani on stage to perform their joint track “Love Lies.”
The duet happened when, after the Houston native finished singing his first verse, he name-dropped Normani, as the former Fifth Harmony member, who came out on stage to perform the chorus. The two previously performed the sensual track at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. Watch the Lollapalooza video below.
Normani already has a hit track under her belt with Khalid and she may be headed for another one with Calvin Harris.
A picture posted by Victoria Monet of herself and the Fifth Harmony singer in the studio with Calvin Harris seems to confirm the idea that they are working together. Monet captioned the picture, “Last night was magical,” and it most likely was as anything that Calvin Harris has touched lately has turned into a hit (see his and Dua Lipa‘s “One Kiss”).
Needless to say, the outcome was sexy, slick and soothing.
Normani‘s vocals are warm, but edgy at the same time, putting a sultry twist on Drizzy’s tracks. Extra credit goes to her play on 21 Savage’s verse, where she flipped some of his lyrics to coincide with her persona, “Was playing mall shows, but main stagin’ now.”
Normani has an affinity for Drizzy (but who doesn’t?). “Drake has been one of the most influential artists in this generation who consistently releases dope material. I respect his artistry so much. He always resonates with me in some way so I decided to get creative and put my own spin on this mashup of his most recent records for my fans to enjoy,” she told MTV.
I agree. I’ve yet to meet a person who does not knowlove at least one Drake song.

Fifth Harmony is currently working on their third album. Members, Lauren Jauregui and Camila Cabello have also been focusing on their own solo efforts, but I really cant wait to hear more dope music from Normani.
