After pleading guilty to gang, drug and gun charges, Young Thug was been released from jail on Thursday (10.31.)
Marking the end of the longest criminal trial in Georgia history, the 33-year-old musician, born Jeffery Williams, has spent more than 900 days in jail since he was arrested in Georgia in May of 2022 and charged with racketeering and gang activity.
The Grammy award winning rapper was later hit with three counts of violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, possession of a firearm while committing a felony and possession of a machine gun.
At the time of his arrest, it was alleged that Young Stoner Life (YSL) Records, the rap music label Williams founded, was a front for an organized crime ring responsible for “75 to 80% of violent crime” in Atlanta.
On Thursday, the artist was sentence to time served and 15 years’ probation, and placed under house arrest. He was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service, banned from contacting gang members and required to remain in the Atlanta area for the first 10 years of his 15-year probation, notwithstanding special circumstances.
Speaking to the court, Young Thug insisted that he takes “full responsibility” for his crimes, stating “I take full responsibility for my crimes, for my charges.” “To really everybody that has got something to do with this situation, I want to say sorry,” and describing himself as a “good guy with a good heart”.
As part of his deal, Williams pleaded no contest to gang-related counts and guilty to three drug charges and two gun charges.
