On Wednesday (11.30,) it was announced that a stage musical based on the life of Frank Sinatra is in the works.
Based on a book by playwright Joe DiPietro with direction and choreography by Kathleen Marshall, Sinatra The Musical will follow the legendary, New Jersey-born crooner’s music career from New Year’s Eve 1942 through his affair with superstar actress Ava Gardner and his staging of the “greatest comeback in show business history.”
Produced by Universal Music Group Theatrical in association with Tina Sinatra and Frank Sinatra Enterprises, the iconic singer’s daughter stated to Deadline:
“I’m excited to work with Universal Music Theatrical on this stage production that we believe will bring audiences new perspectives and insights into my father’s renowned music and his enduring legacy.”
Universal Music Group Executive Vice President, Michele Anthony, added “Frank Sinatra is one of the greatest icons of the 20th century. We’re thrilled to work with Tina to produce this show that will be a continued evolution of Frank Sinatra’s boundless cultural influence.”
Frank Sinatra passed away in 1998 at the age of 82.
