UCLA Gymnast Performs Floor Routine To Hip Hop In Celebration Of Black Excellence

Dance has long been a way to communicate a message, meaning and emotion, and a gymnast at the University of California, Los Angeles, has gone viral for her outstanding floor routine celebrating black culture.

After tumbling and dancing to a mashup of hits from black artists, Nia Dennis, a 21-year-old, was competing against Arizona State on Saturday (January 23rd) when she wowed the judges with her impressive floor routine featuring songs by Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Missy Elliott, Soulja Boy, Tupac, and Megan Thee Stallion.

In a statement about her unique performance, Dennis said, “definitely reflects everything that I am today as a woman and, of course, I had to incorporate a lot of parts of my culture.” “I wanted to have a dance party because that’s my personality and of course I had to shout out LA because we out here, UCLA.”

The accomplished gymnast scored a 9.950 on her near-perfect performance, helping UCLA defeat Arizona State in the matchup.
