With excitement building up to the this weekends release of TINA, the Tina Turner‘s documentary, HBO and NTS Radio have partnered up to present five hours of programming in advance of the film.
On Friday, one day prior to the HBO documentary’s worldwide debut, the multimedia virtual experience, dubbed Tina Turner: Rulebreaker, will celebrate the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s influential musical career, paying homage to her energetic on-stage presence and trailblazing power as a Black woman in the rock genre.
Throughout March 26, there will be a number of scheduled slots, each with their own theme. Specifically, Dawn Richard will select her favorite live performances by Turner during “Artist to Stage with Dawn Richard” while Arlo Parks will choose special tracks by Turner and discuss the personal meanings behind them in “Resilience with Arlo Parks.” More parts will follow.

Directed by Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin, the forthcoming film follows the singer’s initial rise to stardom, her private struggles as a survivor of abuse at the hands of ex-husband/music collaborator Ike Turner, and her remarkable career resurgence in the 1980s. According to the HBO press release, the documentary makes voluminous use of primary source material, including a “stunning amount of archival footage spanning 60 years,” interviews with Tina herself, figures such as Angela Bassett, husband/former record exec Erwin Bach, Oprah Winfrey, and more.
