The Weeknd‘s viral hit “Blinding Lights” continues to make history as the first song ever to spend an entire year in the Billboard Hot 100‘s Top 10, as it logs its 52nd week on the periodical’s chart dated March 13th.
The recording milestone is propelled by a Herculean amount of visibility the XO/Republic Records-released track enjoyed throughout the last twelve months. One of several singles from the Grammy winner’s After Hours album, “Blinding Lights” has since gained 2,000,000,000 plays on Spotify, went viral on the media-sharing app TikTok throughout the height of COVID-19 lockdowns, was featured on multiple television shows, and was also performed live during the Super Bowl LV Half Time Show.
“After Hours was always meant to be a very personal project. It’s a story I had to tell,” said The Weeknd in a recent Billboard interview. “The fact I’ve been able to tell it with the world listening is incredible. This Billboard chart record is truly a result of the fans. I’m so humbled and forever grateful to them.”
