On Thursday (10.07) The Weeknd has joined the United Nations’ World Food Program as a Goodwill Ambassador and a spokesperson for the international non-government organization.
The Weeknd’s commitment will focus on ending global hunger, an international issue that has significantly increased as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Addressing his recent appointment, the world famous musician stated: “The U.N. World Food Program is doing urgent and important work to change and save lives on a daily basis.” “I feel passionately about addressing world hunger and helping people in need.”
Along with the likes of Kate Hudson and Michael Kors, The Weeknd joins a long line of celebrities who’ve worked with the organization and earlier this year, the 31-year old Canadian hitmaker donated $1,000,000 to the organization’s aid program in Ethiopia, which has faced intense violence and wide-spread famine in the northern Tigray region.
“Our partnership is an authentic extension of all our efforts and intentions to help those in need and bring an end to so much suffering,” the multi-Grammy Award winner concluded.
