In a formal statement from the show’s producers, Ain’t Too Proud, the Tony-Award winning musical about ’60s group The Temptations, will play it final performance on January 16, 2022.
The latest in an ever-growing list of Broadway shows to call it quits due to pandemic-related issues, the Motown-born musical is the latest Great White Way casualty – including “Jagged Little Pill,” “Thoughts of a Colored Man” and “Waitress” – to post a closing notice in the past week amid the recent spike in COVID cases and the omicron variant.
Though performances will resume tonight (12.28,) the Imperial Theatre, home to the show about “The Life and Times of the Temptations” has been dark since December 15 after several cast members of the show tested positive for coronavirus.
The musical based on the legendary Motown act opened in March 2019 and ran for one year before the coronavirus caused the Broadway lockdown in March of 2020. Including its October 16,2021 reopening when the show closes, it will have played 448 performances and 21 previews.
