Having shot to fame with their 2014 viral hit ‘#SELFIE,’ with follow up Top 40 hits ‘Closer’ (featuring Halsey), ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ (featuring Daya), and ‘Something Just Like This’ (with Coldplay), The Chainsmokers drop a remix of ‘Pink Pony Club’ by Chappell Roan.
The electronic music duo of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart will return to the mainstream fray with a new version of Roan’s award winning hit and took to their Instagram Story account with the artwork with the caption out “tomorrow”.
Released in 2020, ‘Pink Pony Club’ it was not until 2024 that the song went viral on TikTok, and in In an interview with Headliner, the now 27-year-old singer/songwriter explained that the song is an LGBTQ+ anthem about feeling free in queer spaces, adding “All of a sudden I realized I could truly be any way I wanted to be, and no one would bat an eye. It was so different from home where I always had such a hard time being myself.”
Though her record label didn’t want to release the song after getting “negative feedback,” Chappell told England’s Capital Buzz:
“We were getting so much like, honestly, negative feedback. I was like, ‘This feels so fun. I want to have fun on stage and dance and to feel happy.’ but the label just didn’t want to put it out. They didn’t get it. So that like, was really confusing at the time.” And, in hindsight, she reflected “I mean, it’s like damn b****, were you wrong? It was the worst time ever to release a gay club song [around the pandemic]. And it still had such an impact. And that was just like, ‘Okay, this means something.'”
