The Recording Academy announcing that Lady Gaga is the newest artist to join the Grammys lineup, is appropriate given her nomination for Album of the Year with Tony Bennett.
Setting the tone for Sunday’s show, Silk Sonic’s Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak will open the event and the Grammys have added a handful of other artists to this year’s lineup, including John Legend, Carrie Underwood, and J Balvin with Maria Becerra.
Though the The Foo Fighters were included in rthe lineup last week, alongside this year’s most nominated artist Jon Batiste, H.E.R., Nas, and Chris Stapleton, the rock band will not play the event.
In a statement by CBS executive Jack Sussman. a tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died last week, is also in the works, “We will honor his memory in some way.” “We want to figure out what is the right thing to do that is respectful to everyone involved. We’re patient. We’ll be planning right up until the very end.”
The Grammys will also feature a special “In Memoriam” performance of Stephen Sondheim songs delivered by Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Ben Platt, and Rachel Zegler.
All up for multiple awards this year, Billie Eilish, BTS, and Olivia Rodrigo were among the first slate of artists set to perform in addition to Brandi Carlile, the Brothers Osborne, and Lil Nas X, who’ll take the stage with Jack Harlow.
The 64th Grammys were originally slated to take place at the end of January, but the show was postponed for the second year in a row due to concerns over Covid-19. Unlike last year’s much smaller event, with both live and pre-recorded performances, the 2022 Grammys will likely be a much more normal show.
