In a video posted to Instagram, Lady A‘s Charles Kelley revealed a rare blood cancer diagnosis, explaining that doctors discovered he had multiple myeloma, that starts in plasma cells.
The singer/songwriter said he had suffered several “random rib fractures” leading his doctor to order tests that revealed the disease, adding:
“I think in the same spirit of the way we’ve kind of shared a lot of my sobriety journey, just getting this stuff off your chest is so freeing, and it takes the power away from it a little bit that we wanted to let y’all know what was going on.” “And we’re going to get through it.”
Assuring fans he intends to keep working with Lady A, through the first six months of treatment, the 45-year old musician shared “I believe it’s not going to be too super invasive. I can still work.” “I think, physically, I will feel like myself. I’ll have tough days, but you know, I want to keep working.”
In conclusion, Kelley said continuing to perform and spend time with his loved ones would remain a priority throughout his treatment, “I need to be happy and doing what I love to do and spending and soaking up as much time with my family as I can as well.”
