Following emergency surgery, lead guitarist Steven Van Zandt will not participate in the next Bruce Springsteen concerts.
Taking to social media on Monday (6.23,) the longtime member of Springsteen’s E Street Band, announced that he is recovering from an emergency operation for appendicitis in San Sebastián, Spain, writing:
“Got a sharp pain in my stomach, thought it was food poisoning, turned out to be appendicitis. Got lucky with an exceptional hospital in San Sebastian.” “The operation was a complete success.”
While the now 74-year old guitarist played with the Springsteen and his longtime backing band in San Sebastián on Saturday (6.24,) his will miss their second show in the city on Tuesday (6.24) as well as their concert in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on Friday (6.27.)
Expecting to return to the tour for their final European stop in Milan, Italy on June 30 and July 3, Van Zandt added “I’m hoping to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan.” “Thank you all for all the good vibes. See you soon.”
In May, Bruce Springsteen launched the European leg of his latest tour in Manchester, England and made worldwide headlines for calling out Donald Trump as “an unfit president” adding “Things are happening right now that are altering the very nature of our country’s democracy, and they’re too important to ignore. In America, my home, they’re persecuting people for their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. That’s happening now.”
