A soaring collaboration with the 28-member TwoCity Chorus, Sam Smith ‘Oh Mother.’
What is the second single from Hazel Eyes, Smith’s forthcoming full length (due August 21,) following the June release of ‘My Guy,’ the musician’s new title is an emotional single about “the fury of a mother witnessing her child’s betrayal – they’re summoning a sort of divine feminine energy.”
The choral composition also features the vocals of Dante, “a mothering presence” during their twenties.” “It’s like a gathering of voices offering strength,” stated Smith.
On one verse, the Grammy-winning artist sings “Mother, I don’t know where to start.” “If I stay will he break my heart.” “Maybe there’s still time to explain.” “But I’m too tied up in my pain now.” “Start to sweat, it’s hard to breathe.” “I cry for help could you get here any faster, any faster?” “Sing for me.”
As part of the British singer/songwriters global To Be Free tour, earlier this month, Sam announced UK residencies, beginning with two consecutive nights at Manchester’s Albert Hall on September 3 and 4 before heading to London for an extended eight-night residency at the Coliseum.
The England shows follow a busy summer for Sam, who will first stage four nights of To Be Free: Mexico City at The Auditorio Nacional this August, who’ll then return home for the 10-night UK stretch, culminating in the final London show on September 18.
Since debuting at Brooklyn’s historic Warsaw in October 2025, the ?-year old artist’s To Be Free residencies have become a global phenomenon, the initial run of which spanned 24 nights, before moving to San Francisco, where Sam became one of the first artists to perform on the newly restored stage of the iconic Castro Theatre.
The shows have also seen surprise guest appearances from Hozier, Ed Sheeran, Brandi Carlile, SIENNA SPIRO and Kim Petras.
