In support of the track she dropped in March showcasing her rap versatility alongside Brooklyn rapper, Fivio Foreign, Nicki Minaj returned to New York City in a pink Lamborghini in her music video for “We Go Up.”
Rapping “I could be all the way covered and still givin’ sexy/I know they sleepin’ on me, bitches got epilepsy.” “I don’t do coke, little bitch, I don’t even do Pepsi.” the Drevinci-directed video combines clips of Minaj driving several high-end luxury autos throughout NYC. Additional shots follow the rap queen (born Onika Tanya Maraj) in a pink monochromatic outfit and matching jacket as she spits the lyrics near the South Jamaica projects in Queens, as referenced in the song’s lyrics “Southside Jamaica, we mobbin’ them bricks, so pull up with them blicks.” “Some of the best shooters out of New York, they don’t play with the Knicks.”
On his verse, Foreign proclaims himself as the king of New York “Touch my crown again, bitch.” “It’s only one king, it’s only one queen, there’s two crowns.”
After sharing the video, Minaj threatened her Barbz via Twitter with delaying the release of her album if the video doesn’t perform as well as she wants it to, writing:
Fivio initially teased the music video‘s release on TikTok, writing “Y’all ready?” Minutes before it dropped on YouTube, Minaj teased it posting a clip of herself in an outfit from the video with the caption, “I forgot to tell y’all on Jan 1st that 2022 was the wrong year to play wit me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 #WeGoUpVideo in 20 mins. It’s gon cost ya.”
Earlier in the week Nicki shared a video on Instagram of herself rapping alongside the lyrics and writing, “I told @bigfenditv this song is scrapped from the album & we just had a hour-long argument 🤔.”
Taking to Instagram and reposting a fan tweet that mentioned how the song got “no promo, no video, no nothing” but quickly made it to #1 on iTunes, Minaj wrote, “New York Stand DF Up!!!” after she captioned “Not a Republic Records single, no bag on it, just a surprise for the fans.”
The surprise track comes a week after the rapper hopped on “Blick Black” by Coi Leray last week, after she released two tracks with Lil Baby: “Do We Have a Problem?” and “Bussin.”
